The 2024 Ewha Winter Volunteers have returned after engaging in volunteer activities during the winter break across various destinations at home and abroad, putting Ewha’s spirit of sharing and service into action.
A total of 128 members of the Domestic Education Volunteer Team were dispatched to 21 institutions nationwide for two separate sessions, each lasting five days, from January 6 (Mon.) to 10 (Fri.) and from January 13 (Mon.) to 17 (Fri.). The volunteers conducted educational programs, which were developed by the Volunteers Program Planning Team for younger children and adolescents at elementary schools and community centers for children and youths, focusing on their physical, mental, and social well-being. In addition, they provided team-specific programs on topics such as the climate crisis, green growth, and artificial intelligence. Their activities also included arts and sports sessions, academic tutoring, and mentoring.
The Overseas Education Volunteer Team visited the Ewha Social Services Center located in the Pochentong district of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, for nine days from January 18 (Sat.) to 26 (Sun.), carrying out educational programs on personal hygiene and health. The Ewha Social Services Center in Cambodia was established in 2012 as the first overseas social services center of any South Korean university, with the aim of practicing the Ewha values of service and sharing while making contributions to society.
Ewha implements the values of sharing and service based on Christian values in real-world settings through a variety of volunteer programs, ensuring that Ewha students grow into leaders who will promote a more inclusive society. Since sending its first volunteer team in 2000, the Ewha Volunteer Team has selected volunteers among Ewha students to engage in activities across various regions both domestically and internationally during the summer and winter vacations each year. Through over 20 years of dedicated practice and service, the Ewha Volunteer Team received the Presidential Citation at the Seventh National Rural Talent Sharing Awards in 2022, while the 2024 Ewha Summer Winter Volunteers’ activities in Cambodia were selected as an “Outstanding Overseas Volunteer Program Developed by Universities” organized by the Korean University Council for Social Service (KUCSS), thereby widely promoting Ewha’s values of sharing and service.
