President Choi Kyunghee Invites the Press to Talk About “Realizing Ewha’s Change and Innovation”

On August 27, Ewha President Choi Kyunghee invited the Ewha press corps to Aryeong-dang (Home Management House) and explained her vision and plans for her term of office. President Choi shared her aspirations for “challenge and innovation to lead Ewha on its path to the top.”
President Choi said that “innovation is most required at a time when universities are subject to quantitative evaluation criteria and excessive competition” and added that she would “lead Ewha’s progress through innovation in four major areas: organization, human resources, infrastructure, and networks.”
The new president also highlighted the importance of restructuring Ewha’s colleges to better serve newly emerging industries and integrated knowledge, in an effort to position the university as an innovative educational institution befitting a new era. She expressed her determination to improve the employment rate of Ewha’s graduates, one of the quantitative evaluation criteria for universities, by creating new academic departments that discover, develop, and utilize industrial sectors complementary to existing departments.
Pointing out the improvement of Ewha’s reputation as the top priority, President Choi pledged to exert her “utmost effort to ensure that Ewha’s genuine values receive due appreciation as a driving force in the development of Korean society and reform of higher education, thereby recovering Ewha’s reputation.”
