Ewha Womans University hosted the 13th Korean-German Forum at the LG Convention Hall located within the International Education Building on July 10.

As an organization renowned for private-sector exchanges, the Korean-German Forum is committed to promoting the friendship between Korea and Germany. Since the first event was held in Korea upon the visit of the former German President Johannes Rau in 2002, the Korean-German Forum has been held each year, alternating between the two countries to discuss a select theme from a range of areas including politics, economy, society and culture.

This year, the event was attended by a number of key figures from both countries. Presided by Prof. Kim Seong Kook (Business Administration), the Chairperson of the Steering Committee, the event began with opening addresses from President Kim Sun-Uk (Chairperson of the Korean-German Forum) and Mr. Harmut Koschyk (Chairperson of the Deutsch-Koreanisches Forum). Other key participants delivering congratulatory messages included: Johannes Selle, Member of the German Bundestag; Hong Seok-hyun, President of Korea JoongAng Daily and JTBC; Cho Tae-yong, 1st Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Yu Hyun-seok, President of the Korea Foundation.

Subsequent to its selection as a co-host of the Korean-German Forum in 2011 in partnership with the Korea Foundation, Ewha concluded an agreement in 2014 to become the sole sponsor designated to host the event until 2019 to promote the development of relations between Korea and Germany. Ewha has become the first university in Korea to be selected by the Korea Foundation as a host organization for a bilateral exchange forum. Capitalizing upon this opportunity, Ewha is committed to presenting a model for the advancement of bilateral forums.
