President Choi Kyung-hee’s Visit to China to Accelerate International Exchange

Choi Kyung-hee, President of Ewha Womans University, visited Beijing on December 7 (Mon.) until 8 (Tue.) and gave an impetus to cooperation in the fields of education and research.
First, she had a meeting with Cao Shihai, Deputy Secretary General of the China Scholarship Council (CSC), on the first day of her visit to China. The CSC, a non-profit institution with legal person status affiliated with the Ministry of Education, selects young talent to send them abroad to study at prestigious schools of higher education and gives scholarships to foreign students studying in China. It is expected that the visit of Choi to China will facilitate the opportunity for more Chinese students to study in Ewha Womans University through the CSC.
In the afternoon of the first day, the president was invited as a special guest to the concert titled “Sound of Peace: Korea-China Joint Concert” held in the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCCP) in Beijing. Many major figures, such as Li Zhaoxing, Honorary President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs and Chairperson of the China Association for International Friendly Contact, and Kim Jang-soo, Korean Ambassador to China, attended the magnificent concert performed under the theme of “Beautiful Relations and Happy Partnership” by Korean and Chinese musicians. In particular, “Ewha Orchestra” composed of students majoring in Orchestral Instruments in the College of Music of Ewha Womans University was invited by the Korea-China Association for Cultural Exchange and they boasted great performances.
In the morning of the second day (December 8), Choi visited Beijing University, China’s most prestigious university which concluded a college-wide exchange agreement with Ewha in 1996, and she discussed with President Lin Jianhua of Beijing University in order to boost cooperation between the two universities. They had a deep talk about many issues including expansion of a student exchange program, further cooperation for academic exchange in various fields, and a joint project among Korean, Chinese, and Japanese universities.
Later in the afternoon, the president met with 20 alumnae from a Beijing-based Ewha alumni association. They presented several proposals for their alma mater and detailed advice about seeking internship and jobs in China for Ewha students and delivered the school development funds raised by alumnae to Choi.
