The Public Diplomacy Center of Ewha Womans University (PDC) held a symposium titled “70 Years of the UN’s Communication: A Public Diplomacy Perspective” at a conference room in the UN headquarters in New York.

The symposium was the first academic review of the UN’s communication activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the UN’s foundation, held in cooperation with the UN Academic Impact, an initiative of the UN’s Department of Public Information launched by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in 2010.

The opening session, hosted by PDC Director Cho Kisuk, looked back on the history of the UN’s communication that has responded to rapidly changing environments in terms of participants, contents, and methodology. In the main session, Director Cho gave a key speech that accentuated the evolution of the UN’s communication from a “public information model” to a “two-way symmetric model.” The panel discussion that involved renowned communication experts from across the globe was followed to suggest effective ways to deliver messages.

The event was broadcast live through the UN Web TV Channel, and the video footage is available at http://webtv.un.org/.
