Graduate Music Therapy Major Engages in Training and Academic Activities at University of Sharjah in UAE

The Department of Music Therapy at the Graduate School (led by Professor Chong Hyun Ju) dispatched a team to the United Arab Emirates for two days from February 6 to provide music therapy training to teachers for disabled students in Arabian countries.
In 2013, the department concluded an educational agreement with the College of Medicine at the University of Sharjah and has since provided music therapy training at the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), the largest special education school and therapy training center in the Middle East. Professor Chong Hyun Ju, the head of the Department of Music Therapy, and two students who completed their doctoral course participated in this training session, holding an educational program for local special education teachers and medical experts to talk about cases of music therapy and its effect.
On February 10, Professor Chong and the training team participated in the Sharjah 1st Arts Therapy Conference, the first-of-its-kind held in the Middle East. At the conference, Professor Chong delivered a keynote speech and held a seminar about music therapy cases in Korea and their therapeutic effects, receiving significant attention from major local media including Al Khaleej. She was also awarded with an achievement award from the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah and Dean of the College of Medicine in recognition of her contribution to advancing and disseminating the discipline of music therapy within the UAE.
