On March 15th, Wednesday, Arthur Kleinman, a renowned Harvard professor and medical anthropologist, visited Ewha Womans University and gave a special lecture on his book entitled “A Passion for Society.”

As a medical doctor and anthropologist, professor Kleinman is a leading researcher in a range of fields including medical anthropology, cultural psychiatry, global health, and social medicine. He is now a professor of medical anthropology and psychiatry at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Global Health and Social Medicine. His visit to Ewha was arranged to introduce his book entitled “A Passion for Society” and to discuss how social action through caring for others affects the discipline of social science.

Professor Kim Eun Mee of the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) said “The importance of care is ever increasing as Korea enters a super-aged society. I found this lecture significant and impressive as in the era of artificial intelligence and the fourth Industrial Revolution it provided important implications for how we can spread the value of care in various academic fields, especially in health and medical areas.”
