Ewha Establishes General Faculty Council

New body launched to represent the entire faculty at Ewha
The General Faculty Council of Ewha Womans University was established and incorporated into the office organization of Ewha as of December 14, 2016. As a body representing the entire faculty, the Council consists of members elected by each college and graduate school with a chair, two vice chairs, two auditors and several secretaries as its officials.
The Council has authority to propose matters concerning university operation and academic affairs to the president and the Board of Directors of Ewha Haktang; to participate in the Planning Committee and other key committees at Ewha; to recommend dismissing the president; and to propose the dismissal of a school business official. With the establishment of the Council, the University Headquarters is to seek the opinion from the Council before it makes decisions on the establishment and abolishment of any college, graduate school, department and/or division of studies. It also must obtain an agreement from the Council when it makes any decision on matters such as tenure and rehiring systems that may bring material changes to the faculty status.
The office of the President is currently vacant. At the request from Ewha Haktang for an opinion on regulations for selecting president candidates, Ewha has asked the Council to seek opinions from the faculty. Those subsequently collected from the faculty, students and staff at Ewha will be communicated to Ewha Haktang to be used as a basis for establishing regulations and procedures for the selection of candidates for the 16th president.
