-The Research Team led by Professor Eun Mee Kim at the Ewha Womans University Institute for Development and Human Security and the Ewha Medical Center Global Health Institute for Girls has been selected as the recipient institution to execute research on the theme of “Korea Global Health Strategy” from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (hereafter the “Gates Foundation”) and will receive a total of 400,000 dollars (approximately KRW 470 million) for three years starting November, 2016. The grant is the second one following 400,000 dollars received for three years in 2013 for the first time in Korea.

This acknowledges that the team, comprised of professors from various fields such as international development and cooperation, medicine (preventive medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, emergency medicine, medical education, etc.), women’s studies, public administration, sociology, international studies, showed outstanding performance and achieved excellent results from 2013 to 2016 in the field of Official Development Assistance (ODA).

“We are thrilled to receive funding once again from the Gates Foundation following the grant in 2013,” said Professor Kim, Dean of Graduate School of International Studies. “Given that Korea, as a donor country, should contribute more to international health and medical treatment, international development and cooperation, and to the empowerment of women’s capacities in developing countries in the age of sustainable development goals, we feel great responsibility in receiving this grant.”
