2016 Beautiful World Made by Ewha: Kimchi with Love

The Volunteer Team of the Office of Student Affairs hosted the “Kimchi with Love” event with Ewha students at the Student Cafeteria on the second underground floor of the Human Ecology Building on November 25.
Launched as part of the Beautiful World Made by Ewha program that has been operated for 16 years since 2001, the kimchi-sharing event has been annually held for five years with the aim to put into practice the spirit to love and support neighbors and offer an opportunity to share time with the local community.
Along with 100 Ewha students and 50 faculty members, 10 volunteers from the local community Seodaemun-gu participated in this event and made 3,500 kg of kimchi for the coming winter. The kimchi they had made was delivered to a total of 350 underprivileged households (10 kg per household), such as single-parent and grandparent-headed families, people with disability, basic livelihood security recipients, people with rare, incurable diseases, and the elderly living alone.
After kimchi-making was done, the participants had the opportunity to experience the kimjang culture of making and sharing kimchi, the typical food culture of Korean households: tasting their own made kimchi and having lunch with boiled pork and geotjeori (fresh kimchi).
Aside from Kimchi with Love, the Beautiful World Made by Ewha program, hosted by the Volunteer Team of the Office of Students, holds a range of different events, such as raising donation for scholarships from November 22 to December 2, to be delivered to teenage, underprivileged residents of Seodaemun-gu; and conducting a hat-knitting campaign with the Save the Children from November 22, 2016 to January 30, 2017.
