Ewha-Rostock SARU (Summer Academy Reunification) was held successfully in Germany, which is a summer seminar program hosted at University of Rostock of Germany to discuss reunification on the Korean Peninsula. Ten Ewha students of various majors from Political Science & International Relations, Sociology, Pre-Medicine, and North Korean Studies to International Studies participated in this summer program.

Ewha-Rostock SARU is a summer reunification academy that helps shed light on how Germany has changed before and after the reunification in various aspects including politics, history, economic systems, and language issues and also think about what challenges remain unsolved after unification with Korean students. This summer school program was established to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Germany’s reunification.

Unlike last year’s program that emphasized the applicability of Germany’s reunification case to the Korean Peninsula, Ewha-Rostock 2017 SARU focused on specific experiences of and discussions on reunification of Germany. The participants went through intensive preparations such as pre-orientation and studies. The program held from July 5 (Wed) to 17 (Mon) included expert lectures on Germany’s reunification, discussions among participating students, cultural exchanges and field trips to Germany’s historic sites such as Potsdam Square, Checkpoint Charlie and the Berlin Wall Memorial.
