Ewha Law School Produced Three New Judges in 2019, Placing Itself in the Second Place in Cumulative Number of Appointed Judges

1Three judicial officials from Ewha Law School were newly appointed as judges with general legal experiences in 2019. Ewha has produced a total of 13 judges since 2015 including this year, the second highest number following Seoul National University.

The newly appointed judges include judge Kim Hyun-young (Ewha Law School 1st class), judge Kim Hanul (2nd class), and judge Kim Eun-hye (3rd class). Judge Kim Hyun-young served as a law clerk at the Seoul High Court and a lawyer for the Korean Government Legal Service, and judge Kim Hanul worked as a law clerk at the Seoul High Court and then as a public defender. Judge Kim Eun-hye worked for the Seoul Central District Court and then as a public defender.

Ewha Womans University established the Department of Law in 1950, founded the world’s first College of Law in a women’s university in 1996, and opened Ewha Law School in 2009. Since then Ewha has produced the nations’ first female lawyer, first constitutionalist, first Constitutional Court justice, and first Minister of Government Legislation, leading Korea’s legal profession. Marking the 10th anniversary this year, Ewha Law School ranked first in the country in the number of appointed law clerks in 2013 and 2015; ranked third in the number of appointed law clerks and prosecutors in 2018; and has honorably placed itself in the second place among law schools in the country in the cumulative number of newly-appointed judges this year.
