“Zurich Meets Seoul – A Festival of Two Cities” Held
The global project “Zurich meets Seoul – A Festival of Two Cities” was held at Ewha Womans University from September 28 to October 5. Marking the fifth year, the festival which started first in New York in 2014 took place in Seoul this year, and was co-hosted by the City of Zurich, the Canton of Zurich and Zurich Tourism. Ewha’s College of Science & Industry Convergence and College of Art & Design played a key role in managing this project by organizing on-campus exhibitions and holding a panel discussion under the theme of “smart city” and “public art.”
On October 1, Ewha’s College of Science & Industry Convergence and Zurich University of Applied Sciences opened a debate under the theme of “Women and the City” by inviting experts on the design of smart cities that are safe and sustainable at the LG Convention Hall in the International Education Building. At the event, President Kim Heisook offered congratulations, saying, “I’m much pleased to see Ewha Womans University, Switzerland, and Zurich University of Applied Sciences taking the first step of the cooperation.” Zurich Mayor Corine Mauch who delivered a welcoming speech said, “I hope this event serves as an opportunity to closely cooperate with each other in order to build a smart city for women.”
Meanwhile, as part of “Sunset: Sunrise,” the public art project of “Zurich meets Seoul – A Festival of Two Cities,” the College of Science & Industry Convergence exhibited works of prominent Swiss female artist Heidi Bucher from September 28 to October 5. Bucher’s The Source was displayed at The Valley of the ECC building, and her six other works on paper were presented at Ewha Art Pavilion. In her sculpture The Source, a poetic scene was created where a vase floating in the air watered the ground creating life like a magic. In line with this exhibition, a panel discussion titled “Battle Zone: Public Art” was held at the ECC Theater on October 1.
