In response to the call of the times—"advancing science and technology through the cultivation of outstanding female engineers"—Ewha established the world’s first College of Engineering for women in 1996 and held a dedication ceremony on July 23. The engineering building was named the Asan Engineering Hall after the pen name of Honorary Chairman Chung Ju-yung of Hyundai Group, who stated, “Through industry-academia cooperation, we wish to actively support the cultivation of female engineers demanded by the times,” and donated the building for the College of Engineering.
