A Warm-hearted World Built by Ewha Members: The 2023 Ewha Summer Volunteers and Second Pear Blossom Sharing Corps

The 2023 Ewha Summer Volunteers and the second Pear Blossom Sharing Corps have returned after conducting volunteer activities during the summer vacation to share Ewha’s values and practice social contributions. The Ewha Volunteers and Pear Blossom Sharing Corps, participated in by a total of 185 Ewha members, carried out team-based volunteer activities in various fields.
With the summer vacation commencing, two overseas educational volunteer teams consisting of 25 participants visited Camp Choson in the U.S., and Ewha Social Services Center and the Royal University of Fine Arts in Cambodia. The U.S. educational volunteer team provided services such as Korean culture and language education, art and sports activities and mentoring at Camp Choson in Minnesota for 12 days from June 30 (Fri.) to July 11, 2023 (Tue.), while the Cambodia educational volunteer team conducted activities addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) for children and youths of urban poor families at Ewha Social Services Center, located in Phnom Penh, from July 8 (Sat.) to July 16, 2023 (Sun.). Meanwhile, 21 domestic educational volunteer teams consisting of 113 Ewha students were deployed to 20 institutions across six regions in Korea, such as Gangwon-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Jeollanam-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do and Busan, from July 24 (Mon.) to August 4, 2023 (Fri.). The domestic educational volunteer teams planned team-based programs under the theme of “music” and provided services such as school curriculum-based coaching, art and sports activities, and academic career mentoring for children of local children centers and elementary schools.
The Pear Blossom Sharing Corps, which was launched in 2022 to spread Ewha’s values and enhance its social contributions in local communities, performed educational volunteer activities for local elementary and middle school students as well as talent-sharing activities including the designing of a village logo and regional slogan at Ewha’s Gosari Training Center for four days from July 24, 2023 (Mon.). The education team consisting of 11 members carried out educational volunteer services, academic career counseling, and academic coaching and mentoring for students of Goesanbuk Middle School. The design team of Ewha design majors contributed to the promotion of the local farming community by designing the product packaging and logo for apples, a specialty product of Yeonpung-myeon, Goesan-gun. In addition, the mural painting and music team will continue their volunteer activities for the community in October by creating mural paintings and holding performances of gugak (traditional Korean music) crossed over with western music.
The Office of Student Affairs Volunteer Services held a disbanding ceremony for the 2023 Ewha Summer Volunteers and the second Pear Blossom Sharing Corps at Lee Sam-bong Hall of the ECC building on August 24, 2023 (Thu.) and applauded students who gave their time to volunteer activities through various programs during their vacation time.
