Le Clezio, a Distinguished Fellow of Ewha Academy for Advanced Studies won the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature

Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, a Franch Distinguished Fellow of Ewha Academy for Advanced Studies, won the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature on October 10 for works characterized by "poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy".

Le Clezio taught French at Ewha as a distinguished professor of Ewha Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation for one year. He was a popular lecturer for giving lectures on open subjects such as 'culture and social problems' and 'understanding of the world and human being'.

He is also known as 'the pro-Korean' who has special affection towards Korea. He learned to read, write, and understand Korean while he stayed in Korea four times since 2001. He is planning on visiting Ewha and giving a special lecture and resume his literary work on Korea in no distant time.

Le Clezio became the third Distinguished Fellow from Ewha Academy for Advanced Studies to have won the Nobel prize after professor Robert H. Grubbs (Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2005) and Dr. Muhammad Yunus (Nobel Peace Prize 2006).
