2024 Ewha Family Christmas Service Held
The 2024 Ewha Family Christmas Service was held at Welch-Ryang Auditorium at 3 p.m. on December 5, 2024 (Thu.) to share the joy of Christmas with Ewha members.
Co-hosted by the Chaplain’s Office and the Ewha Alumnae Association, the Ewha Family Christmas Service brings together Ewha students, current and retired faculty members and staff, and alumnae to celebrate the meaning of Christmas early. Since 1996, this event has been held on the first Thursday of December every year. This year’s Christmas service was attended by around 2,000 participants, including students, faculty, staff, and alumnae, as well as Chairperson Chang Myong-Sue of the Ewha Womans University Board of Trustees, President Eun Mee Kim of Ewha Womans University, President Lee Myung Kyung of the Ewha Alumnae Association, and University Chaplain Sunhee Ahn, with the aim of ruminating together upon the meaning of Jesus’ birth.
Led by University Chaplain Sunhee Ahn, the service commenced in grandeur, featuring a performance by ballet majors from the Department of Dance, followed by the Ewha Christmas Prayer, recited by a group of four people—an Ewha faculty member, staff, student, and alumna—and a scripture reading by President Lee Myung Kyung of the Ewha Alumnae Association. University Chaplain Sunhee Ahn then delivered a Christmas message titled “Now It’s Our Turn.” The service also included a moment for collecting offerings, while screening a video titled “Tracing the Roots of Ewha Womans University” by the Mission Department of the Ewha Alumnae Association. As in previous years, the offerings gathered during the service will be delivered by Ewha Alumnae Association to Ewha graduate missionaries serving around the world, including in Cambodia, Bangladesh, and South Africa.
President Eun Mee Kim extended her Christmas greeting by remarking, “I hope you will appreciate the opportunities given to you, show empathy for the difficulties faced by others, and practice the spirit of compassion by sharing the joy of Christmas together.”
Meanwhile, the Chaplain’s Office held lighting ceremonies for “Ewha’s Houses of Christmas—Nativity Scene” to illuminate the displays at 4 p.m. on the same day. Since its first showing at the ECC in 2018, the Ewha’s Houses of Christmas have been set up each December around campus to celebrate the birth of baby Jesus and to share the warm glow of love with everyone who visits Ewha.
