Professor Bong-Soo Kim is an expert in the field of microbiome research. He obtained his Ph.D. in microbiome studies from Seoul National University and subsequently conducted research on the impact of residual antibiotics and xenobiotics in food on the gut microbiome as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Center for Toxicological Research in U.S. Food and Drug Administration (US FDA). He played role of director of the Research Center for Bioinformatics at ChunLab, Inc., where he spearheaded numerous microbiome studies. While serving as a professor at Hallym University, he conducted researches on the mechanisms of the microbiome in human diseases, the environment, and food. Current research is focused on the prediction of microbiome functions and the interaction analysis between environmental factors, including hosts and diets. He has published excellent research results, including studies on the role of the gut microbiome in infant with atopic dermatitis, the role of the respiratory microbiome in asthma, and research on the gut microbiome in multi-drug-resistant bacteria colonized patients and overcoming technologies. He is also active as an editor for various international journals.

He is conducting microbiome researches in various diseases, including allergic diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, metabolic diseases, aging related diseases, cancer, and infectious diseases using meta-Omics and big data analysis. His research is focused on the development of personalized disease treatments, prevention, health-maintaining foods, functional materials, and the development of mimicking systems for studying the mechanisms of various functional materials. Through these studies, he aims to understand the microbiome as a complex system and promote the realization of precision nutrition.
