Moon and Jeon are the eighth artists chosen for the MMCA Hyundai Motor Series. It is evaluated that the project is contributing greatly to the development of the Korean art world.

Professor Moon has been working together with Jeon Joon-ho as an artist duo since 2009. The two artists have explored the power game inside the art industry, and the role of art in the rapidly changing world which faces a variety of issues such as contradictory capitalism, historic tragedies and climate change that are threatening humanity. Their representative project, “News from Nowhere”, has been inspired by the eponymous utopian novel authored in the late 19th century by William Morris (1834–1869), who led the Arts and Crafts movement in the UK. The project premiered at the 13th Kassel Documenta back in 2012, and has also won the 《Korea Artist Prize 2012》 held during the same year at MMCA as well as the 《Noon Award》 at the 9th Gwangju Biennale. For the past decade or so, the project has been unfolded globally in various forms - media, installation, archive, multi-disciplinary research and workshop, publication.

“News from Nowhere” has been presented in various ways for the last decade all around the world. It was featured in a variety of art including media, installations, archives, interdisciplinary studies and workshops, and published articles that showed the story of the region. Through the MMCA Hyundai Motor Series 2021, Professor Moon & Jeon aim to present a new chapter of NEWS FROM NOWHERE: FREEDOM VILLAGE based on the only village that lies on the South Korean side of the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)—Daeseong-dong, also known as “Freedom Village.” The village is the only place where civilians can reside inside the DMZ. Also, the exhibition is planned to be presented at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Japan from April 29th, 2022. Such touring exhibition is a part of the Series 2021 project, in line with the purpose of the establishment of the Series to support competent and promising artists' overseas expansion.
