Department of Library and Information Science, Joins the iSchool Consortium Membership

The Department of Library and Information Science (Director Prof. Sang-yong Lee) was approved as a new member school of the iSchool Consortium, a prominent international organization in the information science field, in April 2021. The membership approval was unanimously decided by all members of the iSchool Executive committee.

The iSchools Organization (https://ischools.org/)) was founded in 2005 for the advancement of the information field in the 21st century. As of 2021, 112 universities worldwide, including the United States, Europe, and Asia, are members. The iSchools Organization membership runs the gamut, from well-established information schools to those newly created or evolving from programs formerly focused on specific tracks such as information technology, library science, informatics, information science, and more.


As of May 2021, there are five members of the iSchools Organization in Korea: Seoul National University Graduate School of Convergence Science, Yonsei University Department of Library and Science, Sungkyunkwan University, and Kyungpook National University.


Ewha Department of Library and Information Science plans to continue to develop through research exchanges and collaboration with the world's leading universities, including UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, University of Washington, University of Michigan, University of Oxford and Peking University.


Since its introduction of Library Science for the first time in Korea in 1954, the Ewha LIS has been leading various theoretical research and education on the production, flow, and use of knowledge information. Over the past 60 years, the Ewha LIS has produced nearly 2,000 graduates, who are dedicated to the industry with expertise in information science. Such experts are required in 21st century’s libraries, various information centers and digital libraries as knowledge and information are the keys in the new era.
