Ewha Selected for the Largest Number of Top K-MOOC Courses among Domestic Universities
Seven lectures provided by Ewha were selected as the top-rated courses in the annual evaluation of the Korean Massive Open Online Course (K-MOOC). Following its selection for the largest number of Blue Ribbon courses (eight), referring to high-quality courses of the year, Ewha was also selected for the largest number of top-rated courses (seven) among domestic universities, thereby demonstrating the school’s outstanding educational capacity.
K-MOOC is Korea’s online higher education platform, through which anyone can easily access lectures by Korean universities anywhere for free. The National Institute for Lifelong Education (NILE) selected 20 top-rated courses as a result of annual evaluation on domestic universities’ K-MOOC courses for which the three-year financial support for operating expenses has ended. Seven courses of them were from Ewha, marking the largest number of selections among domestic universities.
The seven selected top-rated courses are as follows: “Modern Physics and the Revolution of Human Thought” by Professor Kim Chan-ju (Physics), “History of Architecture, Society and Culture” by Professor Yim Seock-jae (Architecture), “Human Behavior and Social Structure” by Professor Hahm In-hee (Sociology), “The Complete Animation Course” by Professor Choi Yoo-mi (Design), “Music and Science/Technology” by Professor Yeo Woon-seung (Content Convergence), “Why We Get Sick – The Ecology and Evolution of Diseases” by Professor Choe Jae-chun (Life Science), and “Children’s Outstanding Language Learning Abilities – Approach from Bilinguals” by Professor Yim Dong-sun (Communication Disorders).
Meanwhile, courses by Professor Kim Chan-ju, Yim Seock-jae, Choi Yoo-mi and Yim Dong-sun were also selected as Blue Ribbon courses along with the top-rated courses, proving their excellence again. In addition, another lectures were listed on Blue Ribbon courses such as “Reading Culture through Etymology” by Professor Jang Han-up (French Language & Literature), “Understanding and Utilization by Photography” by Professor Lee Pil-doo (Communication & Media), “Biomedical Technologies and Law” by Professor Lee Won-bok (Law), and “Behavior of Animals” by Professor Jang Yi-kweon (Life Science).
Ewha’s Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL) first launched four K-MOOC courses in 2015 and has developed a total of 21 courses as of the first semester of 2021, demonstrating the proven excellence of Ewha’s educational content by being selected as high-quality courses every year since the initial stage of Ewha’s participation in the K-MOOC project. In addition, with the appointment of the school as the phase-two MOOC leading university in 2020, Ewha plans to develop and operate additional high-quality K-MOOC courses that consist of five courses (three standalone courses and two specialized courses) in 2021 and four courses (two standalone courses and two specialized courses) in 2022.
