Ok Kyung Yang Professor
Department of Social Welfare
Yang Ok Kyung (MSSW, Ph.D.) is a professor in College of Social Sciences. She received her Master and Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin Madison, majored in social work. Her main research areas are community mental health, social work practice, social work ethics and human rights, and social work history. She served as a President of Korea Academy of Social Welfare in 2010-2011 and a President of Korea Academy of Social Family Welfare. Since 2012, she is an editor-in-chief for the Asian Social Work and Policy Review(Wiley Publishing). Prof. Yang published over 50 articles alone or with co-authors including an article “Family Structure and Relations” in Social Indicators Research. She also published 15 books as an author or an translator; to name a few bests are <Community Mental Health>, <Social Work Practice>, <Family and New Governance>, and <Multicultural Society, Korea>. Six of those books were selected as the “Best Academic Book of the Year” by the National Academy of Sciences or Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Some of the major positions Prof. Yang served at Ewha W.U. were Dean of Graduate School of Social Welfare, Dean of Career Development Center, and Vice-President for University Relations and Development. In 2013, she was appointed as lifetime Emeritus Professor at the Jilin Normal University in China. She now serves as a board member in several pro bono foundations including Samsung Foundation and UNICEF Korea.
