So-hee Shim Professor

So-hee Shim obtained her B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature at Ewha Womans University, where she is currently a professor.  After completing her M.A. and Ph.D. on Chinese phonology from Yonsei University, second Ph.D. regarding Chinese phonetics from Peking University in China was conferred upon her.  Her major books are A Diachronic Study on the Correct Pronunciations of Chinese Characters (2013, Ewha Womens University Press) and The Collaboration of Phonetics and Engineering (2003, Chungnam National University Press, co-author).  She has translated Chinese Phonetics (2013, Kyoyookbook), Chinese Phonology (2000, Kyoyookbook), Understanding of Modern Chinese (2007, China House, co-translator), and A Dictionary of Chinese Synonyms (2005, Songsan Publication, co-translator).  She has published research papers on East Asian languages and characters such as A Study on Korean Speakers’ Reading of Chinese Sentences by Punctuations, A Study on the Female Chinese Characters, A Study on the Korean Transcriptions of Foreign Languages in the Joseon Dynasty, A Study on the Distinct Characteristics of the Chinese Languages in Northeastern China, A Study on Various Writers’ View on the Consonants and Vowels in the Late Joseon Dynasty Based on Their Correspondence, and more.
