Dr. Myoung Hwan Ahn is a professor at the Department of Atmospheric Science & Engineering. He is a leading scientist in the fields of remote sensing and satellite meteorology. He got a Ph.D from the Department of Meteorology in the University of Maryland at College Park with a research related with the development of an algorithm to retrieve SO2, O3, and aerosol using the spectrometer data onboard a satellite. Since joining with KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration), he was deeply involved with the COMS program (the first multi-purpose geostationary satellite program in Korea) by providing background theory for the development, leading a group of scientists for the algorithm development and application of the acquired data. He was also in the responsible position for the successful launch of COMS in 2010 and subsequent in-orbit-test. With the huge success of the COMS program, he successfully lead the follow-on program, GEO-KOPMSAT-2 planned to be launched in 2018. After a successful career at KMA, he has been working with the Department of Atmospheric Science and Engineering since 2012. Current research interests include development of sensor calibration and validation process and retrieval algorithm for the GEO-KOMPSAT-2 satellite and characterization of ground based microwave radiometer and development of retrieval algorithm for the atmospheric temperature and humidity profiles from the radiometer. About 50 peer-reviewed papers are published including about 20 of international recognized SCI level journals such as AMT(Atmospheric Measurement Technology) and GRL(Geophysical Research Letter)
