Alumna Hyun-joo Yang Successfully Passes the National Pharmacy Board Exam with the First Prize

Alumna Hyun Joo Yang(College of Pharmacy, Class of 2021) gained glory of winning the first prize at the 72nd National Pharmacy Board Examination 2021, held on 22nd January(Fri) by the Korea Health Personnel Licensing Examination Institute.


“I am glad to hear the news of winning the first prize, and I thank everyone around me including my family and colleagues, said Yang. She also mentioned that “what helped me the most was continuous studying within the study club with my colleagues once a week based on what we have learned in class.” Moreover, she said, “I still remember how professors, including Professor Hwajeong Kim who taught me Advanced Training in the laboratory, encouraged and advised me to study while preparing for the exam. I aim to be a great Pharmacist who works hard, and understands patients well.”


It is rated that total 1,920 students applied for this year's Pharmacy Board Exam. The average acceptance rate was 91.0%. As this year’s exam precluded the application of students from Foreign Pharmacy Schools, who are comparably rated to have lower acceptance percentage, it was estimated that acceptance rate of the domestic Pharmacy school students will rise. Yet, it came out to have slightly lower acceptance rate while the examination was known to be more difficult than usual. Nonetheless of such circumstances, Ewha College of Pharmacy rated 96.06% of acceptance as 122 out of 127 applicants passed the examination. It is 5% higher than the national average point. Considering such percentage and that the first prize winner also graduated Ewha proves the excellence of Ewha’s Pharmacology Education.


Ewha College of Pharmacy, established in 1945, is the nation’s very first university pharmacy school. Since then, Ewha has been constantly producing elites in Pharmaceutical fields, and operating important and leading roles in all walks of life. Not to mention, the College has received a 5-year certificate from the Korean Association Council for Pharmacy Education evaluation in 2020.
