Professor Jin-Kyu Rhee of the Department of Food Science and Engineering won the 23rd Science Technology Commendation from the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Professor Rhee has carried out a number of research projects to build a digital conversion/smart factory platform for personalized/special-purpose food manufacturing. Professor Rhee was rewarded for his contribution to the development of agriculture, livestock and food fields through the commercializing infrastructure technologies.
Professor Rhee holds 15 patents at home and abroad and has published 20 related academic papers. Professor Rhee made expected sales of about 3 billion won through non-exclusive licenses and technology transfers. In addition, he established SuFAB Inc., a subsidiary of Ewha Womans University Techno Holding Inc., in December 2019, securing funds of 2 billion won from KIBO. In October this year, SuFAB Inc. was recognized as a research firm and certified as KS Q ISO 9001 by the Ministry of Science and ICT. It is currently in close discussion with an Italian company for investment as well as joint research and development.
SuFAB Inc. develops 3D design and medical bio products. The company is set to release CMR (Convenient Meal Replacement) products and HMR (Home Meal Replacement) products for future food products. It also speeds up the developing of a meat substitute, which is currently attracting attention as a future food.
