Professor Jeonghoon Ahn of the Department of Health Convergence was awarded a Minister of Health and Welfare’s Commendation in recognition of his contribution to the development of health insurance at a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the National Health Insurance Service on June 30.
Professor Ahn, an expert in health economics, was a professor at the USC School of Pharmacy and a senior researcher at the National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency (NECA) before being appointed to a professorship at Ewha in 2016. Professor Ahn has conducted various economic evaluation research of health and medical technology such as expensive anticancer drugs, and carried out numerous health and medical policy study. In recognition of his contribution to the improvement of the drug price management for health insurance, he was awarded the Minister of Health and Welfare's commendation for the second time since 2013.
Professor Ahn is engaged in various activities, including the chairman of the Asia Consortium of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research(ISPOR), the academic chairman of the Korean Society for Health and Medical Technology Evaluation, and the editorial committee of the Korean Association of Health Technology Assessment(KAHTA). He also founded HTAasiaLink, a network of Asian medical technology assessment agencies in 2011, along with other Asian experts in the field.
