Professor Myungsoo Yang selected as the ‘Global Scholar’ by Society of Christian Ethics

Myungsoo Yang, professor of Chrsitian studies has been selected as the ‘Global Scholar’ by Society of Christian Ethics.


The U.S. Society of Christian Ethics was established in 1959 by an American political philosopher Karl Paul Reinhold Niebuhr. Currently, it has 900 members in the U.S., Canada and European regions and selects one Global Scholar every year.


Professor Yang is the first Korean to be selected as the Society’s Global Scholar. Having been invited to an annual conference held in Washington from January 9th, Thursday to 12th, Sunday, he published papers and discussed with Professor William Schweiker from University of Chicago on the topic of 'An East-West Conversation on Homo Technicus and Religious Humanism: From AlphaGo to Avatar’.


Professor Yang teaches Christian ethics and introduces Christian traditions from the history of human intellect aspect. He is also an expert in subjects such as the theory of social justice, civilization and French philosophy. He has carried out research that highlights Korean way of living and its philosophical features on one hand, the key concepts of Western ideas and on the other hand,. Recently, he is interested in combining Christianity with Korean beliefs and creating Korean theology.


He was the head of the office of the Chaplain from 2013 to 2017 and received the 14th Ewha Scholarship Award in 2018. His works include From the Holy Name to Life, Western Christian Humanism and East Asian Naturalistic Humanism (Ewha Womans University Press) and Reading Thomas Acquinas’ SummaTheologica (Sechang Publishing Co.)
