2022 Spring Commencement Ceremony Held

2022학년도 전기 학위수여식 개최Ewha hosted the 2022 Spring Commencement Ceremony at Welch-Ryang Auditorium at 2 p.m. on February 27. A total of 3,411 graduating students participated, with 2,184 receiving a bachelor’s degree, two granted honorary degrees, 1,105 awarded their master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees being conferred on 120.


The event started with the march of President Eun Mee Kim and the deans of the colleges and graduate school. The ceremony was attended by notable guests and visitors, including Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Ewha Womans University Chang Myong-Sue, President Kim, President of the Ewha Alumnae Association Nam Sang-taek, University Council members, and over 3,000 graduating students. All the participants celebrated the graduation and cheered the fresh start of these new Ewha alumnae.

Noting that “the Ewha networks branching out from the precious classmates, older and younger students, and professors you have come to know at Ewha will be lifelong strong supports sharing success and happiness with you,” President Eun Mee Kim delivered a message lauding their first steps as confident members of the Ewha community that continues to take on challenges and is working to change the world.

The President’s remarks were followed by a congratulatory address by Distinguished Professor Emeritus Kang Kyung-wha, who played an active role on the world stage by serving as Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations and in other positions with global organizations and who was the first female Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of Korea. Professor Kang urged students, “Watch out for intellectual laziness, take small but positive actions, and live as a good and righteous person. Then life will provide you with amazing solutions.” She added, “I hope that you will draw upon your dream for your distant future even right now when you are just worried about tomorrow.”

At the commencement ceremony, Chairperson Lea Armstrong (Korean name: Kim Ye-ja, admission to the Department of Broadcasting Journalism in 1960) of the Lea Armstrong Scholarship and Community Organization (LASCO) and Professor Lee Eun-jeung of Freie Universität Berlin (admission to the Department of Political Science & International Relations in 1982) received diplomas as honorary graduates. In addition, international students from around the world drew attention by receiving their diplomas as well. They included scholarship recipients from the Ewha Global Partnership Program (EGPP) designed to support disabled students, North Korean refugees, and students from developing countries in becoming talented future leaders.
