Ewha Shares Joy of Christmas with 2022 Ewha Family Christmas Service and Lighting Ceremony for Ewha’s Houses of Christmas
The 2022 Ewha Family Christmas Service, co-hosted by the Chaplain’s Office and the Ewha Alumnae Association, was held at 3 p.m. on December 1 (Thu.) to share the joy of Christmas. Ewha students, current and retired faculty members and staff, and alumnae gathered together to honor and celebrate the meaning of Christmas in advance at the Ewha Family Christmas Service, which has been held on the first Thursday of December every year since 1996.
The service opened with a reading of the “Ewha Christmas Prayer,” and was followed by a scripture reading by President Nam Sang-taek of the Ewha Alumnae Association, the hymn “O Holy Night” by Ewha Chorus and a sermon by Rev. Sunhee Ahn (University Chaplain). Under the title of “The Gift of Your Presence,” Rev. Ahn preached, “I pray for the Ewha family to live a life in which their very existence itself is a gift as did Jesus who completely gave and presented himself as a gift to all mankind.” President Eun Mee Kim also shared Christmas greetings with the Ewha family and took the opportunity to ruminate on Ewha’s spirit of service and sharing by remarking, “Ewha’s beginning was only made possible by our practice of love and care for the marginalized. I hope you will take this time at the end of the year to look back and see whether there were people in need around you, while sharing your gratitude for everything, regardless of whether it was tough and difficult or rewarding and happy.”
The service also created a warm and beautiful Christmas atmosphere with special performances to share the joy of Christmas, including a performance titled “A Christmas Festival” by the Ewha Orchestra (conductor: Professor Ki-Sun Sung) and another performance titled “Sleighing” by the College of Music Choir (conductor: Professor Shin-Hwa Park).
The special donations raised on the day will be delivered to missionaries who graduated from Ewha and are now succeeding Ewha’s lineage of faith by conveying God's love across the globe in countries including Cambodia, Bangladesh, and South Africa.
Meanwhile, the Chaplain’s Office held lighting ceremonies for “Ewha’s Houses of Christmas—Nativity Scene” on November 29 (Tue.). Since its first installation at the Ewha Campus Complex (ECC) in 2018, the Ewha’s Houses of Christmas lighting ceremonies have spread to light up various locations on the campus, such as the ELTEC College of Engineering, the College of Medicine Magok Campus, and Ewha’s dormitories to celebrate the birth of baby Jesus, who came as light into a dark world, and to share the warm glow of love with visitors at Ewha.
